Why is stroke an important issue to your audience?
Stroke is a leading cause of death and disability among adults. About 62,000 strokes occur in Canada every year – that’s about one every nine minutes. Currently, about 405,000 Canadians are living with the effects of stroke. Stroke is most common among people over age 70. But over the past decade, strokes in people in their 50s have increased by 24% and for those in their 60s, by 13%. Recent international studies predict that stroke rates among people aged 24-64 will double in the next 15 years.
